MARANGATTUPURAM

About Us

The members of the Marangattupuram Family belong to the Knanaya Community which is also known as Tekkumbhagar. We are an endogamous ethnic group found among the Saint Thomas Christian community of Kerala, India.

The origins of the Knanaya Community is traced back to the arrival of the Syriac merchant Thomas of Cana (Knāi Thoma) who led a migration of Syriac Christians (Jewish-Christians) from the Mesopotamian province of Sassanian Persia to Kerala, India during AD 345.

Our lineage goes back a long way to start with Thomman Marangattupuram who was a descendant of the Syriac migrants and set up his base at Brahmamangalam.

He was succeeded by his 3 sons Chakkunni, Mathai and Ulahannan.

As of 2023, we are in the 6th generation and growing.
